Meet Harmony Dust

Last night during worship, I was praying for my friend Harmony Dust, who was sharing a part of her story that she’s – in a few ways – still living.  “What joy, What joy for those whose hope is in the name of the Lord.  What peace, what peace for those whose confidence is him alone.”

I praised God for her life, thinking of the tragedy she has endured, and more than survived, overcome.  My husband added this morning that Harmony has only increased in the midst of what she has overcome.  We are in awe of God in her and through her.  We financially partner every month with her non-profit, Treasures, because we believe in her, in the incredible leadership team partnering with her to bring justice to the women and men in the sex industry.

This is front line battle – whenever we make a commitment to wage war against hell, the devil gets pretty upset.  But thankfully, we serve a God who makes the demons tremble.  He sends us out not in our own strength, but by His Spirit and even though in this life, we have trouble, Jesus brings us peace because He has overcome this world.  He is our light and our salvation, because of this, whom shall we fear?  He is the stronghold of our lives, of whom shall we be afraid?

When we take up His cause, He battles on our behalf, and we have watched Him do that faithfully in the life of Harmony as she has continued to lean on and trust in God.  I imagine when her feet hit the floor in the morning, hell trembles.

What are you doing these days that shakes the gates of hell?  What battles are you fighting?  If you’re tired, don’t quit.  Endure.  And as my hero Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

Hey there fellow truth-teller, welcome to our community. I'm so glad you're here. I love to help people take their mask off and tell the truth, and I believe the world needs what you have to give. I write books and blogs, live in Harlem, New York, with my hubby, and two rambunctious boys.

  • A little funny to comment on a blog about me:) But I must say this…I think one of the KEY reasons I have been able to navigate this season (besides of course God Himself taking me from strength to strength and giving me a firm place to stand when I thought for sure my life was falling apart) is that I have friends with faith and prayers like yours! Seriously! Literally don’t know how I coulda done it.

AND, I am so happy you are writing my friend! What pours out of you is LIFE! When you speak, when you write, when you serve, when you cook pancakes…maybe not when you drive in downtown traffic, but every other time and place:) Love you Ash!
